Think About a Dolphin for Once
a short film by Miles Barstead
(29 minutes)
At the nexus of Toronto’s richest and poorest neighbourhoods, a college student encounters mysterious forces while studying social inequality.
When challenged to revise her overdue Master's thesis, Alison (Faly Mevamanana) is drawn to a historic foot bridge connecting Toronto’s gritty St James Town to upscale Rosedale. There she meets Elke (Lee Lawson), a strange woman with a knife made of baby shark teeth, who is definitely leaving town today.
Joined by Elke’s well-meaning but hapless sidekick Kevin (Ted Charette), they embark on a journey that will bring them into conflict with each other, the local community, and reality itself.
A short comedy full of big questions, Think About a Dolphin for Once explores gentrification, activism, and the secretly interconnected consciousness of all living things.
